Japan: Wireless energy transport with point-to-point space solar possibilities

LessThunk comment: This is THE space-race of the early 21st century. Japanese scientists are now able to project microwave energy to a collection point 55 meters away. The race is on to do this from just outside of the atmosphere back to ground station collectors. Regardless of which transmission technology wins this race to collect light from beyond the atmosphere; this is a fantastically valuable continuous and efficient (24×365) supply of energy. The source is the sun, so it is an endlessly renewable resource (it is good for another few billions years). This technology is very environmentally friendly, as the collector can sequester any emissions onsite.. we will watch the race.. and enjoy the benefits
